I decided to pursue a career in education to make a difference in the lives of all diverse learners. I identify as a diverse learner. I am a neurodivergent individual who has learning disabilities. My passion has always been to help others overcome their obstacles, empower others to believe in themselves and create achievable goals.
One of my first memories was when I was in high school and was assigned a project to create an artistic collage of my dream career path. I created a board with the focus of making a difference in people’s lives, where I could support, mentor, and encourage individuals like myself. The goals that I had created for myself sent me down this path to attend college and take a mix of psychology, child development, and special education courses. I have not strayed too far from the path that I set out to accomplish years ago. I have stayed empowered and pushed through the obstacles using perseverance and grit.
My past life experiences have shaped me into the educator I am today. I have had many opportunities to deeply reflected on my life experiences. This has helped me establish rapport with my colleagues and clients (students, and their families). I am a firm believer in universal design, student centered learning, the use of technology, and the implementation of active learning strategies. Being able to reflect on my life experiences, and connect them to learning theories, research, and practical practice has helped me lead by example. I am excited to continue on the path of being a lifelong learner, educator and coach. Can not wait to see what life has in store for me next.
